BRIEF DESCRIPTION
37.5_S_116.1_W
Blackett is a 141 km-wide lunar impact crater that lies on the lunar Far Side, behind the southwest limb. It lies beyond the southeast outer ring of the immense Mare Orientale basin. The formation of that major feature has left Blackett deeply marked with groove-like features running from the northwest. Much of the crater has been shaped by the ejecta from Mare Orientale, particularly along the western half of the crater. Overall this crater is heavily eroded, with several craters overlaying the southern rim, and smaller formations overlaying the western and northwestern rim. The interior floor has been roughened by ejecta, leaving only parts of the southwest interior in their previous relatively level and featureless condition. To the right of Blackett is the small (36 km) crater, Steklov (not labelled above but shown in USGS chart) southwest of the Montes Cordillera ring of mountains (see Ridge Section 147). About four crater diameters to the southwest is the slightly smaller crater Chant (also not shown).  (Credit: Some of the information used in the section feature descriptions was obtained from wikipedia.org. Section 156 and this directory was created by Fran Ridge and Ned Haskin of The Lunascan Project).
