BRIEF DESCRIPTION
6.2_N_149.3_W
Ridge Section 123 takes its name from the crater Tsander, titled
after the Cyrillic rendering of Frederich Zander, an early
developer of rocket engines. This crater (160 km wide) is
located on the lunar Far Side and is attached to the younger
Kibal'chich, and it is a heavily worn crater formation with an
outer rim that has been rendered into an uneven, somewhat
circular range due to impact erosion. There is a significant
outward bulge along the rim edge to the south-southwest. A
smaller crater lies across the rim to the west-northwest. The
interior floor has low ridges and uneven areas most likely as
the result of large deposits of ejecta. There is a cluster of
small craters near the midpoint of the interior, and the worn
remains of a pair of older impacts in the north and west. The
best image of this arear can be found on the LRO Wide Angle
Camera (WAC) Chart 70 linked above. The area south is covered by
the lac WAC 88. Kibal'chich is a 92 km impact crater and lies to
the east of the walled plain Korolev (Section 122). The rim of
Kibal'chich is slightly eroded, and the shared border with
Tsander has produced a straightened rim along the northwest
side. But the edge remains well-defined and the inner walls
display some terrace-like shelves. The interior floor is
relatively level, with the remains of a small crater rim in the
southeast quadrant. There is a small ridge located near the
midpoint. (Credit: Some of the information used in the
section feature descriptions was obtained from wikipedia.org and
the crater sizes were obtained from NASA's WAC chart data.
